Nearly useless without a subscription. LOVED the original version, but nearly anything useful you now have to pay for. HATE the new version. Without paying, you can only download one state at a time and cannot filter. When items are close, it replaces the icons with a count, which sucks if you can't filter because a group of 5 may, infact, have zero campsites. The map now shows elevation, which may be handy, but also clutters up the map when you are just looking for camping.

yes the free version has a limit of one set of places at a time, but the filter WORKS on all versions, subscription or not. the Premium feature on filters is saving and loading your own set of filters. But you need to hit the check button on the top right of the filter screen and this will filter out the unwanted pins.

As a UX designer, the new app design does not meet my expectations for a paid app at this price point. My favorite misstep is the 'shake to report an issue' feature that will inevitably come on when you're riding down a dirt road. I get that there are costs with hosting this data and maintaining the app but, where's the investment in improvement? The old app looked dated but, it was free. Charging a premium for us to use the data that we all contributed to feels a little shady.

You know the new app still has a free version you can use? As for the UI, now that have some income we are constantly improving the app. As a UX designer, YOU know that these changes are not quick, or fast or cheap.... so just hang in there. You can always get all the information you are missing in your statement on the iOverlander website.

the places work fine, but the "downloading" feature is clunky and a strange design choice. You can only download one STATE at a time (who looks at a whole state?) and the UI to download / select regions is clunky. I just want to see sites in one area without having to delete, redownload, wait to download... it's such a cumbersome and strange design decision. not sure who on the tech team suggested this. EDIT: Downloads can work this way without being clunky. 'Not perfect' is putting it lightly Edited

Hi, thanks for the feedback. We know this new process is not perfect, but this change was required because of the massive amount of points iOverlander has around the world. Our old app faced many challenges because there were too many points to load, and because the points needed to be available offline.

The new version is awful, a clear cash grab that doesn't actually provide me with features I want. All it does is put up an insanely priced paywall for what used to be standard features. I live on the border between two states and try to find new camp spots in both, not including traveling to other areas. If I don't want to pay the high subscription fee, I'm screwed choosing only one state at a time. The old app has actually saved me when other apps lost downloads, but I don't trust the new one.

Hi Matt, the big advantage of the new app are real offline maps. Our old app just used the cache of your device, that wasn't very reliable. We are sorry that we have an optional paid subscription now, but after 10 years of trying to run iOverlander just out of donations, we have to admit, this isn't possible.

$60 a year to download more than one map of user generated data. You gotta pay $99 for unlimited maps. What a load of trash. Pretty low to charge people to access information they helped create. Onx Offroad overlays tons of maps and info (public lands, weather, cell phone signal, etc) for $35 a year. This one is overcharging for what they are providing. Look at FB or Reddit and you'll notice, iOverlander is right, thousands are leaving.. this app. ✌️ Edited

Hi Tom, that's why we have a rewards program. We give away free upgrades every month to all of our users who frequently contribute. Thousands went out the door already.
