The app works as inscribed, but it's a real battery drainer, AND you have to keep the car rather close to the device for solid connection. It's fun completing all the challenges and earning all the rewards, and it also IS possible to build your own car, as long as you have all the motors hooked up, and all the motors are calibrated and spinning in the exact directions as in the actual models. The excavator is a bit easy to make your own model out of, while the Xtreme offriader meets standards. Edited

Thanks for your review! ✨ The Bluetooth signal distance is around 10 m/33 ft. 😊 Low batteries and obstacles might affect it. 📲 Try to remove any obstacles if it seems like the distance is shorter than expected. 💪 Happy building! 🤓 -Luigi, LEGO® Customer Service

The app works for my 9800. It has achievements but no way to tell if they're done. But my real gripe is there is no way to set up the controls for a custom model. Unlike past analog systems where you could build and control anything you could dream up, now it's locked down to 8 or so models. Apparently older versions of the app allowed custom models and controls via a "create" button but that seems to have been deleted. They deleted creativity...?!? Hopefully I'm just missing something. Edited

I have narrowed my issues down to the app. I am a 45 yr. old AFOL that deals with computers on a daily basis. I understand the basic steps to make this app & hardware work. Needless to say, it doesn't. I have tried 2 different phones as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the app. My phones DO see the Lego hubs (on the 42100 Excavator) as they show up in the Bluetooth connections when the app is trying to pair them, however, the pairing never works. It attempts to connect and then starts over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over again. I have enjoyed Lego for many years and am really surprised that this is happening. Lego has always been synonymous with "Excellence", but not in this case. I really doubt this is a hub issue, but I still will lodge a complaint with Lego on their website as well. They need to fix this ASAP. Makes me wonder now much testing the developers went thru... not enough I'm guessing. UPDATE - Jan. 5, 2020 After further testing, I have found that if I swap the 2 hubs then I am able to completely test and operate the model without any issue. I further tested this by swapping the hubs back and experienced the original issue. At this point, I can confirm that my original assumption that the app was at fault to be incorrect. I tested this hub swapping theory twice and both times, as long as I had the hubs swapped, the testing and operation worked 100% of the time. Also, I really hope Lego has plans of opening up the app for custom builds due to the fact that each MOC can have unique functions. I generally buy Technic sets for the great parts so that I can create MOCs. I have never left a set together for more than a couple of months before I take it a part and use its pieces for another build. I find that this will be more difficult being that the Control+ hubs & motors only work with specific configurations currently. I have let Lego know my latest testing results and hope to get a replacement hub. Edited

I had absolutely no issues setting this up on my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The app seems to work well, and the BLE seems to be responsive. My only real complaint has to do with the controls for the Off Road Buggy. When you use the 2-stick control, the throttle is on the right stick, and the steering is on the left stick. This is backwards to every other R/C car controller I have ever used. It would be nice to be able to swap the steering and throttle controls in the app.

The app itself works and connects to my excavator no problems. I can control the model. However the app fails to respond to the android "back" gesture on my oneplus 7 pro. So I get trapped in some screens. For example the screen to chain commands together cannot be exited. You have to force quit the app. Additionally on that same screen to chain commands, it won't allow me to drag and drop the commands onto the bottom line. The block only drags down half the way and then springs back. So 3 stars

Thanks for your feedback! 👏 To move the programming blocks, 📲 make sure you're holding your finger down on each block. 🤖 To exit programming, click on the menu button on the side. 🤓 Uninstalling and reinstalling the app often helps. 🤓 If this doesn't solve it, please get in touch at 👉 LEGO.build/Service. ✨ -Luigi, LEGO® Customer Service
